Unit 1 -
Basic acting/ Improvisation The students will be exploring body language, various emotions as well as listening and reacting skills. This will be accomplished through theatre games and acting activities. Unit 2 - Physical Theatre The students will learn various vocal and physical techniques to create unique characters. This will be accomplished through mask and clowning activities with the final project being a “Mr. Bean” created scene. Unit 3 - Film Studies The students will learn the importance of a storyboard, camera shots, camera angles, proper use of the video camera, editing, the importance of sound effects and music to create mood. All students will have a role in their created film. |
Acting/Improvisation/ Theatre Sports
The students will further explore body language, emotions as well as listening and reacting skills. This will be accomplished through theatre games and acting activities. The grade 8’s will learn Theatre Sports games and have a friendly competition at the end of the unit. Unit 2 - Monologues The students will look at various speeches throughout time and within theatre to establish the importance of having a character’s voice/ opinion/ thoughts being heard. They will each have a monologue to study a character and how to appropriately portray their personality, emotion and physicality. The monologues will be memorized and presented in class. Unit 3 - Radio Plays The radio play unit furthers the students study of utilizing the voice, sound effects and music to establish the story and characters. We will listen and read radio plays from the pre-television era to get a good sense of the entertainment our ancestors were exposed to. The final project will be the recording of their own radio play. |
Unit 1 -

This will be accomplished through theatre games, acting activities and theatre sports. Unit 2 - Script/ Scene Work The students will analyze scripts including the formatting for scripts, character development, historical look at theatre, the playwright’s intentions for characters and staging a scene. The students will work through the process of blocking a scene to present to the class. Unit 3 - Stage Combat The students will be taught the mechanics of stage combat, remembering that it is all an illusion for the audience. Stage combat requires focus, safety, choreography and trust. As their skills progress, the students will be asked to choreograph their own combat scene to present to the class. |
